Departure in the morning to the city of Colonia del Sacramento located 190 km fromMontevideo. We take route 1 to the west through San José, this department ischaracterized by the quality of its land and climate make it the ideal place for settlementof productive and industrial undertakings. This department is the second largestdairy producer of the country behind Cologne.
Colonia del Sacramento was founded in 1680 by the Portuguese troops, strategic placethat was coveted and disputed for a century. In 1995 it was declared a World Heritage Site Humanity by UNESCO. Its old town was remodeled to receive touristsdomestic and foreign. Tour the cobbled streets, its museums, peace, history andelegance make it a must see.
Once in Colonia we enter through the Portón de Campo, built in 1745 at the request of the Portuguese Vasconcellos, also known as Puerta de Campo or Puerta de la Ciudadela, it is one of the largest and most famous monuments that cannot be missed. We will also find the famous Calle de los Suspiros, the Lighthouse, the Basilica, the picturesque Puerto Deportivo and the Real de San Carlos with the old Plaza de Toros built in 1900 to host internationally famous bullfights. The Plaza is located 5 km from the historic center and is in its last phase of construction, remodeling.
