Full description
Departure in the morning to visit the most glamorous and important spa in South America. Taking the inter-resort route heading east, we cross the department of Canelones, which has more than 60 km of coastline and more than 30 resorts, as wellplace chosen for its proximity to Montevideo to live all year round.
Our first stop is Piriápolis "the City of the Sun" founded in 1890 by Francisco Piria, a Uruguayan businessman, alchemist, famous for developing the spa, its castle and its "belle epoque" style buildings such as the Argentino Hotel, which at its inauguration in 1930 , was considered the largest in South America facing the sea.
We continue along the Rambla de los Argentinos designed in the best European style which curves around the bay with its beach, commercial and nightlife area.
Continuing we arrive at its port and its chairlifts. We climb until we reach the panoramic view of Cerro San Antonio at 130 meters high.
We go out to the route which leads us to discover the charm of Punta Ballena and Casapueblo, house and atelier of the artist Carlos Paez Vilaro. We will give time to visit and enjoy its paintings, sculptures and different views of the house.
Casapueblo is a building built by the Uruguayan artist Carlos Páez Vilaró located in Punta Ballena, 13 km from Punta del Este, Uruguay. Initially it was the artist's summer home and workshop, it includes in its facilities a museum, an art gallery,
a cafe and a hotel. It was the permanent residence of his creator, where he worked and where he stayed until his death Casapueblo began to be built in 1958 around a wooden box made with planks found on the coast, called La
Pioneer, by Carlos Páez Vilaró. This box was his first atelier. Casapueblo was designed in a style that can be compared to the houses on the Mediterranean coast of Santorini but the artist used to refer to the oven's nest when referring to this type of construction. This construction, which took 36 years to complete, 6 has thirteen floors with terraces that allow an optimal view of the sunset over the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. It houses a tribute to Carlos Miguel, son of the artist and one of the sixteen Uruguayan survivors of the plane crash of flight 571 of the Uruguayan Air Force, which crashed in the Andes on October 13, 1972.
We enter Punta del Este through Playa Mansa from where you will see the Gorriti Island and the Hotel Enjoy ex Hotel Conrad. We continue along Pedragosa Sierra Avenue until we reach the undulating bridge of La Barra de Maldonado.
We continue through Playa Brava where you can see its beautiful neighborhoods, its mansions, the El Torreón building with its rotating panoramic view, La Mano sculpture, icon of the spa. We will stop for our free time and personal activities.
Then we go through part of the Peninsula where everything happens, street
main, commercial, gastronomic, nocturnal and entertainment. We continue by the meekto the marina. We can see the lighthouse built in 1860 and the most important church in the resort, Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria. The Isla de Lobos nature reserve with sea lions from the western hemisphere in Punta de la Salina, its rocky part that separates and joins the Río de la Plata with the Atlantic Ocean. Plazoleta Great Britain is named after the English ship Ajax, which faced the Graf Spee in the historic battle of 1939 in the Río de la Plata.
