Full description
Journey from Edinburgh on one of our luxury coaches through scenic Fife and it's charming fishing villages. Experience 'Scotland's Best Fish and Chips' in Anstruther before spending a couple of hours in the historic and beautiful town of St Andrews - the home of golf, religion and Prince William's University. You will also have the opportunity to visit Falkland, the village made famous in the hit tv programme 'Outlander'. We will pick you up from your Edinburgh Hotel and drop you back in the centre of Edinburgh, happy and full of historic tales from our experienced tour guide driver
From Edinburgh our St Andrews & The Kingdom of Fife Tour heads to South Queensferry and the Forth Bridges, giving you the chance to take photos of three of the most remarkable bridges in the World. After crossing the Firth of Forth, our first stop is the magnificent Dunfermline Abbey, burial place of King Robert the Bruce. Here, you will have the opportunity to photograph his ornate golden tomb. You will also have time to wander around the Abbey, it's grounds and see the results of the “reformation”, a time when churches were destroyed and desecrated, supposedly in the name of God.
Passing the birthplace of Andrew Carnegie, the world famous philanthropist, we travel along the Fife coast and the charming little fishing villages of the “East Neuk”, stopping in Anstruther, an old Herring stronghold where you can take the opportunity to try “the best fish and chips in Scotland” or have a snack at the Fisheries Museum. We then continue on to St Andrews, home of golf, religion and of course St. Andrews University. You will have the chance to spend a couple of hours in this historic and beautiful town. In good weather, the beach featured in the movie “Chariots of Fire”, are a particularly popular sight. You’ll also be able to visit and enjoy the intriguing 16th Century tunnels beneath the Castle.
Golfers may want to visit the grave of Young Tom Morris, the Golf Museum, the Links Course putting green, or simply walk along Grannie Clark’s Wynd, a public right-of-way, over the 1st and the 18th fairways of the old course.
Our final stop of the day is to stretch your legs and take some photos of the beautiful village of Falkland, nestled between the two Lomond Hills in the Howe of Fife. Fans of "Outlander" will recognise Falkland as the stand-in for Inverness, where Claire and Frank honeymoon. You can see several shops and locations from the programme including the fountain Jamie stands at and stares in Claire’s window.
