Full description The El Salvador Mayan Route Tour represents an approach to one of the most advanced cultures of humanity, the Mayan culture. Discover part of this civilization by visiting the Joya de Cerén archaeological site: better known as the "Pompeii of America", declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993 for its valuable contribution to the daily life of the ancestors of El Salvador. At the site you will admire a pre-Columbian Mayan agricultural village that was surprisingly preserved due to several layers of volcanic ash from an eruption in 600 AD.

Then, you will visit the San Andrés archaeological site, a very important political and ceremonial center that has various structures for the use of the governors during that time. The most emblematic structure is number 5, better known as "La Campana" due to its peculiar shape. The site was buried by the eruption of the Playón volcano in 1658 AD, preserving the Indigo structures almost intact.

In the afternoon you will visit the city of Santa Ana, one of the most important cities in El Salvador, in the so-called "golden age of coffee". In that period Santa Ana was the most prosperous city in the country. Taking a panoramic tour, visiting the Theater, the Municipal Palace and the beautiful Cathedral that was designed to look like a Gothic-style Cathedral in contrast to the Spanish Colonial style of most of the cathedrals in El Salvador and the rest of Latin America.

Last but not least, guided visit to the Tazumal archaeological site near the city of Chalchuapa, an architectural complex with the largest pyramid in El Salvador. This archaeological site was a sophisticated and important city where sculptures and metal artifacts unique to El Salvador have been found.
