Full description
The Columbia Icefield is one of North America's largest icefields, spanning 325 square kilometers (125 square miles) in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, between Alberta and British Columbia. A visit to this natural wonder offers an unforgettable experience packed with adventure, stunning views, and lasting memories.
Highlights of the Columbia Icefield tour include riding on the Athabasca Glacier aboard the massive, six-wheeled Ice Explorer, getting up close to this majestic glacier. Walking on the Glacier Skywalk, a glass-floored platform suspended 280 meters (918 feet) above the Sunwapta Valley, offering breathtaking views of the Rockies. Exploring the scenic Icefields Parkway, with photo stops at Bow Lake and Peyto Lake (when accessible), set against the backdrop of glaciers and towering peaks.
Witnessing iconic sights like Mount Athabasca, Mount Columbia, and the Sunwapta River winding through the valley.
Whether you're seeking an educational experience or simply want to enjoy some of the most spectacular views in Banff National Park, this tour is perfect for immersing yourself in Canada's natural beauty. Join us for a day of awe-inspiring sights, thrilling adventures, and unforgettable moments.
Additional Information
Please be at the meeting point 20 minutes before the departure time of the tour. It is very important in this case to take note that it is the passenger's sole obligation and responsibility to contact the local contact number one day before the service to confirm the exact pick-up point and time
The only pick-up point included is from 138 Banff Ave - Public bus parking located behind the Mount Royal Hotel
Tours require a minimum of 4 guest to operate, please call the day prior to confirm the tour
All children aged 15 years and under must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian
Infants (5 and under) are free of charge, but this does not include any food
Photo ID may be required for identity verification
You can choose from the following lunch options (please indicate at the time of booking): Chicken Club Wrap (mayo, chicken, bacon, lettuce and tomato on a tortilla wrap) or Roast Beef Sandwich (premium roast beef slices with lettuce, tomato, swiss cheese and horseradish mayo on a kaiser bun) or Vegetarian Wrap (tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, lettuce and hummus on a tortilla wrap) or Green salad with chicken (gluten-free) (romaine lettuce, tomato, green onion, cucumber and diced chicken with french dressing). Lunches also includes fruit, juice, salted potato chips and two bite brownies
While for a large portion of the tour you will be on the bus, it can snow, rain, hail or shine any month of the year at the Icefields and so we suggest to prepare for unpredictable weather and dress in layers with hats, gloves and warm shoes
It is usually only a few degrees cooler at the Icefields as it is in Banff, although the glacier does experience some cold winds. For shoes, we would suggest closed toes shoes such as trainers or outdoor shoes. It is also recommended to take sunglasses as it can be very bright on the glacier
There is a chance of seeing wildlife on the tour and the Icefields Parkway is a common area to spot animals, however we do not guarantee seeing wildlife on any of our tours
Tips are not expected, but are certainly appreciated. If you think your guide did a wonderful job and would like to indicate that with a tip, it will be graciously accepted
By participating in the tour, guests are acknowledging that they understand that we may take video and photographs of them during their tour. These videos and photographs may be used in promotional materials including, but not limited to, social media
