Full description
First Day:
We will begin our three-day journey along the coastal national road, heading toward the Corinth Canal, where we will make a brief stop to admire this impressive feat of engineering. We will then continue to Epidaurus to visit the ancient theater, renowned for its incredible acoustics. Afterward, we will venture into the Argolis region, known as the golden land of Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization and a powerful military stronghold that dominated much of southern Greece. Here, you will see the imposing Cyclopean Walls, the Lion Gate, the Royal Tombs—including those of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon—and the magnificent Treasury of Atreus, a 14th-century B.C. masterpiece of architecture. In the afternoon, we will head toward Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, passing through the towns of Tripoli and Megalopolis. We will overnight in Olympia.
Second Day:
In the morning, we will visit the archaeological site of Olympia, where you will admire the Temple of Zeus, the Temple of Hera, the altar of the Olympic flame, the stadium, and the archaeological museum. We will then continue our journey towards Rio, passing through Patras and crossing the bay via the new Antirrio Bridge. On the way, we will stop at the picturesque town of Nafpaktos. Following the coastal road, we will reach Delphi, known in antiquity as the navel of the world. In the afternoon, we will visit the charming mountain village of Arachova. We will overnight in Delphi.
Third Day:
In the morning, we will visit the archaeological site and the Museum of Delphi. In this historic place, you will discover the Castalian Spring and see the Monument of the Kings of Argos, the Temple of Pronaia, the Treasury of the Athenians, the Athenian Stoa, the Polygonal Wall, the Monument of Plataea, and the famous Temple of Apollo, renowned for its oracle. In the Delphi Museum, you will find spectacular exhibits such as the frieze of the Treasury of the Siphnians, the Sphinx of Naxos, the statue of Antinous, the metopes of the Athenian Treasury, the famous bronze Charioteer, and many other impressive artifacts. After an optional lunch, we will return to Athens.
Enjoy this exciting three-day journey through the ancient history of Greece, from the splendor of Mycenae and Olympia to the mystique of Delphi, exploring impressive archaeological sites and admiring magnificent works of art and sculpture.
