Day 1
NEW YORK – PHILADELPHIA – AMISH COUNTRY
Depart from New York City, through the state of New Jersey towards Pennsylvania, until arriving at the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. Upon arrival, we will begin an interesting panoramic tour that includes the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Elfreth's Alley (the oldest inhabited street in North America), among others.
Before leaving Philadelphia we will see the famous "Rocky's Steps". We will continue west towards Lancaster County, home to the Amish community.
We begin the visit with a ride in an authentic Amish carriage through the town to learn how this community has managed to survive decades without technology, electricity, sewage, and many other services that modernized society takes for granted. We learn how the Amish community has adapted by incorporating technology to create self-sufficient farms and using renewable energy sources. After the walk we visit the Amish market where we can buy handicrafts. In the late afternoon we will leave to arrive in Washington DC in the early afternoon. Lodging: Fairfield Inn and Suites.
Day 2
WASHINGTON DC–NEW YORK
We will start our day with a visit to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, by the Basin surrounded by the famous Japanese cherry trees. Visit the historic Arlington National Cemetery, where we can see the changing of the guard and the Kennedy family mausoleum. Our visit continues on Capitol Hill. The Capitol is the building that houses the two chambers of the United States Congress. The Capitol has a large dome in the center and two wings on each side. The north wing corresponds to the Senate and the south wing to the House of Representatives.
We will also visit the White House to understand the core of the United States government. We continue the tour visiting the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History (whenever the Aerospace Museum is closed for renovation), the monument dedicated to Lincoln, Martin Luther King and those killed in the Korean and Vietnam wars. In the afternoon we will depart north to New York and arrive in the evening.
