Full description
Embark on a unique New York City experience visiting two of the city's most iconic landmarks: the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. This private tour will take you through the history of these world-famous landmarks, exploring their historical and cultural significance while enjoying unforgettable views of Manhattan Bay.
The tour begins in Battery Park, a historic green space located at the southern tip of Manhattan, from where you will board a ferry that will take you first to Liberty Island, home to the iconic Statue of Liberty. This monument, a global symbol of freedom and democracy, was a gift from France to the United States in 1886 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of American independence and symbolise the friendship between the two countries. Along the way, your guide will give you a detailed insight into the creation and history of this statue, its significance today and its influence on modern American culture.
Once you arrive at Liberty Island, you will have the opportunity to get a close-up view of this majestic figure, which with its raised torch represents the light of liberty guiding those seeking a new beginning in the United States. From the base of the statue, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline, New York Bay and the bridges that connect the city.
After enjoying Liberty Island, the tour continues to Ellis Island, a place steeped in history that was the gateway for millions of immigrants who came to the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Upon arriving on the island, you'll visit the National Immigration Museum, where you'll learn about the harsh realities faced by those who travelled long distances in hopes of starting a new life in the New World.
Ellis Island is not only a historical site, but also a place that holds millions of human stories, as more than 40% of the American population today has at least one ancestor who came to the country through this port. Through interactive exhibits and archival documents, you'll immerse yourself in the stories of families who settled in New York and across the country, contributing to the growth and development of the United States.
During your visit to the island, you will have the opportunity to tour the museum at your own pace. There you will see documents, photographs and objects that tell the story of the lives of the immigrants, from their voyages by ship to their arrival in America. You'll also have the option to take some time to enjoy the café on the island or, if you prefer, pick up something light to take with you on the ferry back to Manhattan.
The experience begins with a stroll through Battery Park, home to Castle Clinton, a historic structure that was initially a fortification and later served as an immigration centre before Ellis Island assumed that role. Here, before boarding the ferry, you can learn more about the history of this important site, itself a monument to the evolution of New York City.
It is important to note that, due to park regulations, guides are not allowed to give tours inside the Statue of Liberty Museum or the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. However, your guide will provide you with all the information you need to enjoy both tours independently. At the end of the Ellis Island tour, you will have the option to return with your guide to Battery Park or, if you prefer, stay on the island a little longer and return on your own by ferry, which departs regularly.
This tour gives you an intimate and detailed look at New York's history, from its role as a centre of immigration to its evolution as a symbol of freedom and opportunity. It's also an excellent opportunity to see two of the city's most iconic landmarks, while enjoying the incomparable view of Manhattan from the bay.
Don't miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the history and culture of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island on this private tour - book now and enjoy an unforgettable day in the city that never sleeps!
