Full description Embark on a scenic journey today as we drive through the enchanting interior of Sicily, reaching Agrigento to explore the renowned Valley of the Temples. Enjoy a two-hour audio-guide independent walking tour of this UNESCO World Heritage site, which includes iconic structures such as the Temple of Hera, the Temple of Concordia, the Temple of Hercules, and the Temple of Zeus. Agrigento, with a fascinating history, is believed to have been founded by Daedalus and his son Icarus, escaping from Crete 'by air.' Historically, its origins trace back to 582 B.C. when Rhodian-Cretan colonists from neighboring Gela founded the city, naming it Akragas after the nearby river. The city rapidly grew in size, importance, and military strength under Phalarides, the first tyrant, and later under Theron, extending its influence over northern Sicily as far as Himera.

In the afternoon, our journey continues to Piazza Armerina, where you'll enjoy an independent visit to the extraordinary Mosaics Floor at the Roman Villa of Casale, a UNESCO Heritage site. Dating back to the 4th century AD, the villa was forgotten until 20th-century excavations revealed its grandeur. It stands as a supreme example of a luxury Roman villa, featuring approximately 3500 square meters of floor mosaics. Likely the residence of an upper-class member of the Roman Empire, the villa's mosaics are celebrated among scholars of antiquity. Later, our journey takes us to Siracusa, with drop-off arrangements to be agreed upon based on prevailing traffic conditions.
