Full description This half-day excursion is a trip to the centre of Madeira Island, where dramatic cloud-capped mountains descend into lush valleys in spectacular fashion.

After boarding the minivan in the centre of Lido, we head first to Eira do Serrado, where you will find one of the most unique and beautiful views and unique "green" surroundings on Madeira.

The descent to the village of Curral da Freiras (Valley of the Nuns) takes approximately 20 minutes, where guests will enjoy the scenery, with forests mixed with areas populated with picturesque houses typical of Madeiran society.
Once the route reaches the Valley of the Nuns, you will immediately see a small village nestled between almost perpendicular mountains in the heart of the island.

The immense caldera on which the Valley of the Nuns sits was formed either by erosion, which is the more recent theory, or, as many still believe, by volcanic activity. The village is very isolated and the locals live mainly from what they grow. The local chestnuts are delicious and are used in daily cooking. Every year, the locals celebrate the 'Chestnut Festival', for which the village is famous.

On your way back, we stop at the stunning fishing village of Câmara de Lobos. This is where Winston Churchill spent his time painting his beautiful landscapes and where you can taste the famous local drink: Poncha.
