Embark on an Auschwitz-Birkenau Tour with an Expert Guide
Auschwitz stands as a poignant symbol of terror, genocide, and the Holocaust, recognized worldwide. Established in 1940 by the Germans near the Polish town of Oświęcim, approximately 60 kilometers west of Kraków, Auschwitz bears witness to one of the most tragic chapters in human history. The story of Nazi cruelty and the suffering of victims is a harrowing narrative. Over the past decades, millions of people have made pilgrimages to this site, visiting its permanent exhibitions, original camp structures in the main part of the complex, and the significant locations in Birkenau (Brzezinka) to pay their respects to the memory of the victims.
Throughout World War II, Auschwitz served as the largest Nazi concentration camp and extermination center. The camp claimed the lives of about 1.1 million people. A vast majority of the victims, approximately 90%, were Jewish. However, there were also many non-Jewish victims, including Poles (the second-largest group of victims, with around 83,000 killed or deceased), Russians, Romani, and prisoners from various parts of Europe. Liberation of the camp by the Red Army occurred in January 1945. Following World War II, the Polish government made the decision to preserve Auschwitz-Birkenau and transform it into a museum. This location stands as a solemn testament to the concentration camp's history and a place of remembrance for the victims.
Visitors to the camp have the opportunity to witness the authentic places and barracks where the victims endured their suffering. Today, Auschwitz-Birkenau is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and draws over 2 million tourists each year.
Your Auschwitz-Birkenau tour will commence in Kraków. From there, we will journey to Oświęcim, a town situated approximately 60 kilometers from Kraków. The drive typically lasts around 1 hour and 10 minutes each way. For your convenience and comfort, our fleet comprises modern, air-conditioned vehicles, including cars, minivans, minibusses, and buses.
The Auschwitz-Birkenau tour encompasses approximately 7 to 8 hours in total. Rest assured that the Auschwitz-Birkenau tour is conducted with full safety measures in place, including those related to COVID-19.
This comprehensive tour is all-inclusive, providing you with a local guide who will share the history of World War II and the concentration camps. An experienced museum guide will take you through the tragic fate of the camp's victims. The tour begins with a visit to the Auschwitz Museum, where you will spend around 2 hours delving into its history. Afterward, there will be a short break before the group is transported to Auschwitz II Birkenau, another integral part of the Auschwitz Museum, usually taking about one hour. Finally, you will be safely returned to Kraków.
Auschwitz is located in an expansive open area, so it's essential to wear suitable clothing that provides adequate protection against prevailing weather conditions.
