Discover the Golden Circle Route, Iceland's most iconic tour and a must-do experience for visitors to the country. This itinerary will take you to some of the most impressive and iconic places, including Geysir, Gullfoss, Þingvellir and Kerid Crater, combining nature, history and unforgettable landscapes in a single day.
The trip begins with pick-up in Reykjavík and we drive to Þingvellir National Park, a site of great geological and historical importance. Here it is possible to walk between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, a unique phenomenon in the world that shows the constant evolution of the Icelandic landscape. In addition, Þingvellir is the place where Iceland's first parliament, the Alþingi, was established in 930, making it one of the oldest parliaments in the world. Within the park is also the Öxarárfoss waterfall, a hidden corner that adds a special touch to the tour with its crystal clear waterfall surrounded by rock formations.
From Þingvellir we continue the tour to Gullfoss, the majestic Golden Waterfall. With a two-level fall that reaches 32 meters high, this powerful waterfall is one of the most spectacular in Iceland. Its force, the roar of the water and the mist that rises as it crashes against the rocks create a breathtaking atmosphere. On sunny days, it is possible to see rainbows forming over the waterfall, offering an unforgettable image.
The next destination is the geothermal area of Geysir, home to the famous geyser that gave its name to all the geysers in the world. Although Geysir is currently dormant, its neighbor Strokkur erupts every few minutes, spewing boiling water up to 30 meters high. All around, the landscape is dominated by fumaroles, bubbling pools of water and the unmistakable aroma of sulfur, a sign of the intense geothermal dynamism of the region.
The last point on the route is the Kerid crater, a vibrantly colored volcanic caldera with a lake inside. The crater walls show layers of volcanic rock in shades of red, orange and black that contrast with the intense blue water of the lake. You can walk along the rim of the crater for panoramic views or descend to the lake's shore to admire this natural wonder up close.
After a day exploring Iceland's most fascinating landscapes, we will return to Reykjavík, where the tour will end.
