Itinerary
Zaanse Schans
Can you imagine how people lived in Holland during the 17th and 18th centuries? Well, a visit Zaanse Schans, it will paint a much clearer picture. The village seems to stand in time: fifteenth century houses and mills of the Dutch golden age. In addition, once we understand how the windmills work, we will go to a workshop where we will witness the manufacture of clogs, the old footwear of the area.
Edam
We always say Edam is the best place to retire. A very quiet village with no more than 8000 inhabitants, cobbled streets, 16th century churches and… its famous cheese market! You know that Edam is known worldwide for its cheese, but it is just one of many charms of this city. Of course, we will not leave this town without tasting this delicious delicacy in one of its chese factories.
Volendam
The fact that the fish from Volendam is famous throughout the Netherlands is a good indication that we should make a stop in this village to eat.. Once you visit this 13th century town and admire its beautiful fishing port, you will enjoy free time to eat and explore the rest of the town on your own.
Marken
All good things must come to an end, but to finish in a beautiful way we will visit Marken, a historic island inhabited by fishermen with a very particular culture. Here, water has always complicated the lives of its inhabitants. We will discover the natural disasters that occurred here and how these islanders adapted to the sea floods. To finish the visit, we will leave Marken by the dam that today turns it into peninsula.
