General Description
Discover the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Arashiyama and Uji on this unforgettable day trip from Kyoto, combining breathtaking landscapes, historic temples, and the rich tradition of matcha tea.
Our journey begins with a train ride to Arashiyama, a picturesque district on the outskirts of Kyoto, famous for its stunning bamboo forest. Here, we will take a peaceful walk through the towering bamboo groves, immersing ourselves in the serene atmosphere of this iconic destination.
Next, we will visit the renowned Tenryuji Temple, one of Kyoto’s five great Zen temples and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historic temple is known for its elegant architecture and its exquisite Zen garden, offering a perfect blend of tradition and nature.
We will then explore the Nonomiya Shrine, a sacred site where imperial princesses once underwent a year-long purification ritual before becoming priestesses. Surrounded by lush greenery, this small yet historically significant Shinto shrine exudes a mystical charm.
From Arashiyama, we will take a train to Uji, a historic city situated between Kyoto and Nara, known for its ancient temples and its deep connection to Japanese matcha tea.
After enjoying free time for lunch with the guide, we will explore Uji’s historic surroundings, learning about the rich history of green tea and its significance in Japanese culture. Here, you will also have the chance to taste authentic Uji matcha, considered among the finest in the world.
Our final stop is the magnificent Byodo-In Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Japan’s most iconic landmarks (featured on the 10-yen coin). With its stunning Phoenix Hall, this temple beautifully embodies the harmony of Japanese aesthetics and nature.
At the end of the tour, we will return to our starting point, wrapping up a day filled with culture, history, and breathtaking scenery in Arashiyama and Uji.
