Embark on an unforgettable adventure to explore one of the largest urban forests in the world with a tour of Tijuca National Park. We begin the tour with hotel pick-up and head to the heart of this majestic park for a nearly 4-hour journey.
Located in the center of Rio de Janeiro, the park was created in 1861 by decree of Emperor D. Pedro II to reforest an area previously destroyed by sugar cane and coffee plantations. Today, it is home to an incredible diversity of animal species, including squirrels, monkeys, porcupines, foxes, and armadillos, as well as millions of butterflies, birds, and reptiles. Remember, these are wild animals, so you should keep your distance and avoid feeding them.
During the tour, you will enjoy the stunning landscapes of the rainforest while learning about its rich biodiversity. On the way, you’ll have the chance to admire the Vista Chinesa viewpoint, the Taunay waterfall, and the Mayrink Chapel. From Vista Chinesa, you will enjoy a spectacular view of the southern part of Rio de Janeiro. The Taunay waterfall, which cascades over rough rocks into a tranquil pool, will be another highlight of the journey. We will also stop at the Mayrink Chapel, built in 1860, known for its pink facade. Additionally, you’ll take a break to view the monolithic Pedra da Gávea and the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue from a distance.
Next, we will head to the Botanical Gardens, where you can explore an impressive collection of over 7,000 species of tropical plants, bromeliads, orchids, and native Brazilian plants. It’s a perfect place to enjoy nature at its finest.
At the end of the tour, we will return to your hotel, having experienced a unique adventure surrounded by the biodiversity and natural beauty of one of Rio de Janeiro’s most iconic parks.
