We commence the day in our modern van, whisking you away to the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site revered for its world-class port wines. Our first destination is a charming family-run winery, where you'll immerse yourself in the essence of Douro's winemaking tradition. Wander among the lush vineyards, witness the meticulous winemaking process, and delight in tastings of their most exquisite wines.
Next, prepare for an hour-long private boat cruise along the serene Douro River in Pinhão, soaking in the mesmerizing vistas that surround you. Following this tranquil interlude, it's time to treat your taste buds to a sumptuous three-course lunch, expertly paired with regional wines. Before indulging in this gastronomic delight, we'll visit a historic railway station adorned with iconic tile panels, offering a glimpse into the timeless allure of the Douro’s landscape and grape harvest.
In the afternoon, our adventure continues with a visit to a second family-run winery, where you'll delve deep into the centuries-old tradition of Port wine production. Accompanied by our knowledgeable guide, explore the historic cellars and savor a handpicked selection of their finest Ports. You will visit Pinhão train station and it's famous tile panels that portray the landscapes and life in the Douro Valley. Your guide will happily explain to you the meaning and scenes portrayed on the panels.
Considered one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the Douro, from here you can admire the river peacefully flowing while downhill you watch the village of Pinhão being embraced by the river that gave life to the village as a meeting point to board on the old times the barrels that carried the Port wine to its aging place in Gaia.
The Douro Valley is a magical place where man overcame nature to create an amazing landscape where hills are covered by vines that produce a wine recognized worldwide "the Port". It's a wine region like no other in the world, where the cooperation of men's hard work and nature allowed the creation of this "reino maravilhoso" (marvelous kingdom) as the poet Miguel Torga described it.
If you wish, you can upgrade your tour with an optional 50m boat cruise on the Douro River that will allow you to admire the landscape from a different perspective. Going upstream from the village of Pinhão, admire the riverbanks covered by vines and bordered by wine estates of some of the most well-known Port wine brands, before starting to return to Pinhão.
